The gunman has been identified as 24-year-old Wellington Menezes de Oliveira, a former pupil at the Tasso da Silveira primary school.
Oliveira stormed into a school in Rio de Janeiro, killing at least 12 children before shooting himself after being wounded by a police officer.
Ten girls and two boys between the ages of 12 and 15 were shot while attending classes at their public school.
