Nicki Minaj’s love affair with Foxy Brown goes beyond what the naked eye can see. Young Money’s resident Barbie brought out Brown, and a slew of other special guests during her free performance in New York City Tuesday (Aug. 14), and broke down her admiration for the Ill Na Na in an interview with MTV News. “I never really told Foxy how much she has influenced me and how much she changed my life,” she said. “You gotta tell people that when they’re alive to even be able to take the compliment, instead of paying tribute to them when they’re no longer here.”
Thanks to their growing friendship, Minaj has turned from a fan to a professional colleague. “I never really knew how she felt about me — in the industry, with women, you kinda just tread lightly — and I’m glad I was able to finally come out and say: ‘You were the most influential female rapper to me.’ “
Brown was by Minaj’s side after she nixed her performance at Hot 97′s Summer Jam, stemming from radio personality Peter Rosenberg’s diss of her music, but their bond is deeper than rap. “When I found out that Foxy Brown was Trinidad that did something to me. In my mind I felt like I could be proud of where I’m from.”
